Dear Friends and Colleagues:

Over the last 25 years, the development of minimally invasive catheter-based technologies has simplified medical procedures, improved clinical outcomes, and expanded treatment indications into several areas of medicine. More recently, the ongoing changes in the health care system have influenced the behavior of the medical device innovation ecosystem. In order to reinvigorate this creative environment, innovative models fostering multi-disciplinary collaboration are required to effectively develop technologies that are disruptive, clinically relevant, and cost effective. As a partner in the innovation continuum, the CRF Skirball Research Center believes that open communication, perseverance, and collaboration are vital to the future of medical innovation. In this first edition of the Skirball Center MedTech Quarterly, we highlight relevant technological breakthroughs, academic developments, and significant events in our field.
