Rebecca T. Hahn’s Background
Currently, I serve as the Director of Interventional Echocardiography at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center and Associate Professor of Medicine at the Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons. Previously, I directed the echocardiography lab at North Shore University Hospital. Prior to that, I was the Director of Clinical Echocardiography at Cornell University. I am the Echocardiography Core Lab Director at the Cardiovascular Research Foundation.
My research efforts have concentrated on imaging in Structural Heart Disease interventions. As new devices are being designed to treat various cardiovascular diseases, echocardiography has become the primary imaging modality not only for pre-procedural diagnosis and planning, but also for intraprocedural guidance. I am the current National Principle Investigator for the Early Feasibility Trial of the Mitralign Percutaneous Tricuspid Valve Annuloplasty System (PTVAS) for symptomatic chronic functional tricuspid regurgitation (SCOUT Trial). In addition to this trial, I am a co-investigator on a number of other new devices trials performed at Columbia University.
As the field of noninvasive imaging continues to develop rapidly, I am interested in creating innovative ways of teaching advanced echocardiography to medical students and fellows. For the last 18 years, I have been the Course Director for the Annual State-of-the-Art Echo Course which trains and educates healthcare professionals on established and new recommendations of the American Society of Echocardiography (ASE). I am a very active member of the ASE. In the past, I served on its Board of Directors, Finance Committee, Education Committee, Chairman of the Continuing Medical Education Committee, Chairman of the 2015 Scientific Sessions Committee, and I am a current member of the Industry Roundtable (IRT) Committee. I also participated in the ASE Foundation humanitarian mission to Vietnam in 2015.
