New York, NY – November 30, 2015 – The Cardiovascular Research Foundation (CRF) is pleased to announce that Michael O’Riordan joins the organization today as Senior Editorial Journalist for TCTMD, the leading online resource for cutting-edge news and information in interventional cardiovascular medicine. Mr. O’Riordan will work closely with Shelley Wood, the new Editorial Director of CRF and Managing Editor of TCTMD, as well as the other journalists on the TCTMD team, to develop original, thought-provoking, and clinically relevant content.

For more than 12 years, Mr. O’Riordan served as a medical journalist for theheart.org and later Medscape Cardiology. As a daily news and feature writer, he has covered atherosclerosis, interventional cardiology, electrophysiology, hypertension, clinical guidelines, and primary and secondary prevention, among other specialties. As Senior Editorial Journalist for TCTMD, he will be responsible for reporting on cardiovascular news, controversies, and trends, and continuing to write the compelling news stories and in-depth analyses that have earned him a reputation as one of the most highly respected journalists covering cardiology and medicine

“We are excited to welcome Michael to the CRF family,” said Jack Lewin, MD, CRF’s President and Chief Executive Officer. “His knowledge and experience in cardiology will be a vital asset to TCTMD as we seek to bolster the quality and depth of coverage for interventional cardiovascular medicine. In addition, his keen news and analysis skills will help broaden the site’s coverage to include topics such as general cardiology, health policy and advocacy, regulatory, medical innovation, and digital health, attracting a wider audience of healthcare professionals.”

“I met Michael when we were both completing our graduate degrees in journalism,” said Shelley Wood, Editorial Director for CRF and Managing Editor, TCTMD. “He joined theheart.org a few years later and we’ve since spent most of our professional lives tackling the most important issues in cardiology side-by-side. He’s one of the smartest, most curious, and hardest working medical journalists in this space and I’m thrilled to be working with him again in this new venture.”

“I'm delighted to join CRF and TCTMD,” said Mr. O’Riordan. "I am looking forward to working once again with Shelley, as well as the other hardworking and respected journalists on the TCTMD team. It’s an exciting time in medical journalism. Physicians are busier than ever and eager to get the most up-to-date news from sources they can trust. This is where TCTMD can play a vital role. I’m excited to join this great team and great organization,” said Mr. O’Riordan.

Mr. O’Riordan was a member of theheart.org editorial team that won several awards including the Online News Award for best specialty site journalism in 2010, "Silver" in the 2011 Canadian Online Publishing Awards (COPA), and "Gold" from the Association of Healthcare Publication Editors Awards in 2013. Prior to his time at theheart.org/Medscape Cardiology, he worked as a researcher for Edelman Health and as a medical writer for The Medicine Group. He is a graduate of Queen's University and completed a master's degree in journalism from the University of British Columbia.
