NEW YORK – June 25, 2026 – The Cardiovascular Research Foundation® (CRF®) today announced that Nicolas van Mieghem, MD, PhD, has been appointed Director, Advanced Interventional Therapies and Digital Education. He will serve as CRF’s senior academic representative in Europe, strengthening transatlantic collaboration across education, research, and innovation in structural and interventional cardiovascular medicine.
In this new role, Dr. van Mieghem will help expand the academic footprint of CRF across Europe, support the development of clinical trials and investigator networks, and enhance digital education initiatives. He will also play a key leadership role in shaping scientific programming and European engagement at the foundation’s flagship meetings, including TCT® and New York Valves.
A globally recognized leader in structural heart interventions, complex coronary disease, and mechanical circulatory support, Dr. van Mieghem has authored more than 750 peer-reviewed publications and served as principal investigator and steering committee member for numerous international clinical trials evaluating coronary and transcatheter valve technologies. He is Professor of Interventional Cardiology at Erasmus University in Rotterdam and an interventional cardiologist and research director at Ziekenhuis Oost-Limburg, Genk.

Dr. van Mieghem will help strengthen CRF's connections with leading investigators, institutions, and innovators across Europe while supporting the growth of its research and educational initiatives.

Dr. van Mieghem earned his medical and cardiology degrees from the Catholic University of Leuven in Belgium. He then completed fellowships in interventional cardiology at Ziekenhuis Oost-Limburg in Genk, Lenox Hill Hospital in New York, and the Thoraxcenter at Erasmus University Medical Center in Rotterdam. In February 2010, he joined the Thoraxcenter as a member of the senior staff within the Department of Interventional Cardiology, where he later served as Clinical Director from January 2014 through October 2025.
