NEW YORK – May 23, 2022 – Shelley Wood, the Managing Editor of TCTMD and Editorial Director at the Cardiovascular Research Foundation (CRF), received the 2022 Wenger Award for Excellence in Media. Shelley is among four honorees who were celebrated during the 22nd annual award ceremony organized by WomenHeart on Monday, May 23, 2022 in Washington, DC.

Shelley is an award-winning medical journalist who leads CRF’s editorial services department and TCTMD, the leading online resource for cutting-edge news and information in interventional cardiovascular medicine. Shelley is being recognized for her original, thought-provoking, and clinically relevant reporting on cardiology. Over the course of her career, she has helped ensure that women are front and center – both the voices of women clinicians and women’s heart health.

Prior to joining CRF in 2015, Shelley was the long-time editor at theheart.org, which merged with WebMD's Medscape Cardiology in 2013. She joined the theheart.org as a journalist in 2000 and became the site's Managing Editor in 2009. Three years later, Shelley was named News Director for the newly launched Medscape Deutschland and in 2013, was promoted to Senior Director, Global News, a role that included oversight of Medscape France. Originally from Vancouver, Canada, she earned her undergraduate degree at McGill University in Montreal and her graduate degree in Journalism at the University of British Columbia, where she specialized in medical reporting.

Named after Nanette Kass Wenger, MD, a pioneer in women’s cardiology, the annual event recognizes individuals and organizations for their extraordinary contributions to women’s heart health. The other award recipients are Dr. Rachel Bond (Excellence in Medical Advocacy), Dr. Harmony Reynolds (Excellence in Medical Leadership), and Congresswoman Lauren Underwood (Excellence in Public Policy).
